I have a German family visiting this week and next and I am looking for interesting things to do with them to introduce them to the melting pot of american culture. Thought the Cambridge Carribean festival looked great and wanted to know if there were any other interesting ethnic festivals going on in the area (Boston or suburbs) for the next two weeks.
Interestingly, they were in Newburyport last weekend and walked by "a restaurant in a church" - after some discussion and translation it seems like they walked by the Greek Festival (at the Greek orthodox church) and were fascinated by the whole concept. Actually, they were initially fairly scandalized that someone would turn a church into a restaurant, but became interested when I explained that it is an annual fundraiser. They loved the catholic church in Newburyport because it was so simple - we go to Europe for cathedrals and they come here for simple churches.
BTW, they are fairly adventurous eaters - tried and liked sushi the other night, although corn on the cob has been their favorite "american" food thus far.
