I've been fermenting a rye sourdough starter for a few days, covered only with cheesecloth. I've been lucky so far; the kitchen moths haven't noticed. We don't have as many kitchen moths as we used to, just a few occasionally.
Do moths avoid fermenting grains for some reason? Are they just waiting till I think I'm safe? If they do like fermenting grains, is there a way to start a sourdough starter without them getting into it?
Oh, I also stuck two bay leaves on top of the cheesecloth. I've heard those are supposed to ward off kitchen moths, but I'm not sure that actually works.
Anyone else found themselves in this situation?
