I've become somewhat disenchanted with the breakfast served at the average corner coffee shop and/or diner. Maybe I'm basing my opinion on nothing more than portion size but I feel like most of the diners in the city pretty much skimp on breakfast...at least here on the UES.
I live across the street from Viand and it's fine to ease the hunger pang but their breakfast is nothing special. Plus, I've never gotten past the stupid argument I had several years ago when my girlfriend asked for honey for her toast. The waiter said there would be an extra charge because there was already syrup on the table. I still don't see what one has to do with the other. But I digress.
I hit a lot of diners in NJ when riding my motorcycle and find that NJ diners are far superior for breakfast. You can never see the plate through the food and the preparation seems more focused on actually proving a tasty meal...like peppers and onions in the home fries as opposed to simply bland, tasteless fried potatoes.
I will mention that Mansion diner on York and 86th has really good corned beef hash...but I'm interested in hearing which diners stand out for breakfast in your experience.
