So I usually go out to eat at least once every two weeks with my girlfriend. Being students, this has kept our restaurant selection small, to say the least. (Though we usually go somewhere more expensive for birthdays / anniversaries) We have pretty exhausted the Thai scene. (We eat at Klong, on a bare minimum, once every two months.) My apartment is by Arthur Avenue, and I worked as a waiter there this summer, so we generally don't go downtown for Italian. I'm trying to get her into more latin and south american food, and she loves sushi. The best dining experiences we've ever had were at Amber sushi and Paradou, though we clearly don't dine there much!

So we'd like to expand our restaurant choices. I really can't afford more than $25 a plate, and we're looking to try a lot of ethnic food we haven't had. So I turn to you, venerable chowhounders, to give me the scoop on those great little (secret?) cheap eats.

PS. I want to take her to Zenkichi for her birthday later this month. Anyone know much about this place?
