Now that summer is coming, what are the best ice cream stands around Boston (seasonal or otherwise)?
I'll throw a few of my favorites out there:
My favorite until recently was Benson's on route 133 in Boxford. The seasonal fruit flavors (strawberry, raspberry and peach) are out of this world. I've never tried to go her ein the wonter, but it seems like it would be closed for the season.
My new favorite is Richardson's on Route 114 in Middleton. The tollhuse cookie ice cream features the best vanilla ice cream I have ever had. And the atmosphere is great- it's a dairy, with assorted farm animals out back. I'm looking foward to bringing my favorite little kid there this year. And it's open year round.
For soft serve, I head to Soc's on Lynn Fells Parkway. Soc's italian slushes are also fabulous; my favorite is mixing sour apple and cherry. Soc's is open March through October.
For soft serve year round, I head to Dairy Dome in Stoneham, on Route 28.
When I lived in the city, I loved Christina's (especially Burnt Sugar flavor) in Inman Square or Herrell's in Allston.
