Trap Rock (Berkeley Heights) - locally sourced grass fed beef. It seems to be served with the most love during lunch hours. Juicy, steaky flavor, local artisan cheese (or a vermont cheddar), wonderful light bun (like challah?) that adds just that little bit without making it a focus if you know what I mean (not chewy). And the fries are thin and crispy (bonus).
On the opposite end of the spectrum, BUCU (Paramus). More of a patty fast food style burger but excellent toppings (red ripe tomatoes, green leafy lettuce and I don't like bacon or bleu cheese on my burgers normally but I love the Jersey burger here - applewood smoked bacon, blue & cheddar cheese and grilled onions). Quick service (order at the counter) and they bring the food to you and take it away (surprisingly great service from the usually young ladies here). The fries are soft and the onion straws are greasy, but this post is about burgers.
I have yet to try the burgers at Krugs, White Manna or Stage Left but all have received rave reviews and could overtake one or both of my current favorites. Other heralded burgers (like Next Door) did not make it.
Where are some of your favorite burgers? Please try to omit the "my parents used to take me here" styles biases. If you order your burgers well done you are instructed to return to the main boards immediately.
