My Fav Tip in 40 Yrs of Cooking!

I want to testify! About 5 yrs ago I learned on CH a tip that has been soooo invaluable to me. It's about saving effort. >>Unlike most of you (probably) my inspiration to cook something and my inspiration to EAT that something.....do not always coincide. (And we're a 2 person household; no kids.) And i get so discouraged when I have to throw out something that went bad in between inspirations.

The answer: extend shelflife by storiing that item in the bottom -most rear
left corner of your frig. Whether a drawer or a shelf (i use both this way) THAT is the coldest spot in your frig. I have been astounded to see how much longer foods last back there- both raw foods and cooked foods.

As a result of this, i keep all my prepared meat,poultry,fish dishes there. Raw items i keep there as well, but also sitting on a bed of ice (paper wrapped raw seafood) or under an icepack if i can fit one(wrapped raw poultry and meats.) For storage w/o messes, we place the plastic bag of ice or the raw wrapped item in a small tray with sides or one of those ubiquitous black plastic round takeout containers w/ the flat clear plstc tops.) If i have extra room, i even keep prepared vegetable dishes in that corner.(Earlier today I had my fav potato salad- that i made 2 wks ago!)
