The shopping center on N Washington St. is to be torn down in 2-3 months. An article last week in The Sentinel said that Vignola is still open but they had not formally decided where they will move. They do know they will not move back again to that area of Rockville when construction is done.
Giuseppi's will move to the space formerly taken by Benito's, next to Regal Cinemas 2 blocks away.
Great Harvest Bread will move to a space at Federal Plaza on the Pike (which also has Mamma Lucia's, Ruby Tuesdays AND Bennigan's - how come the competition doesn't pare it down to one?, and Trader Joe's).
The center's demise is bringing on mixed feelings. It's an older facility, but full of local, independent shops (except for CVS & Magruder's). The city's plan is for expensive condos & nicer (read more $$) stores - both chains & locals. Retail rent elsewhere in Rockville is sky high.
