how to say farewell to boston?

dt | Aug 11, 2003 02:57 AM

here's the situation. one of my closest friends is soon to leave boston, to take a job in another city. i've also recently gotten a new job (here), so celebration is in order. and, i owe him a nice meal.

so, the question: if you could have one upscale meal in the boston area before you left, where would it be? and why? i'm not really looking for the must-eat restaurant for visitors, but for the place that best sums up the experience of living here for several years. (does that make any sense? probably not.)

i'm prepared to spend ~$100 per person including wine, but that's not a hard and fast limit. anyplace where it takes weeks or months to get a reservation is out for practical reasons, i'm afraid (but the day/time is flexible). location's not particularly important. a trendy name would probably score points with him, if not with me . . .
