Wow. I am a huge mole/salsa/sauce/spice fan - love spicy Mexican and S. American foods, Thai etc. Last Sunday I was produce shopping at Holiday Market in Royal Oak and had a sample of "Maria's Salsa" Roasted Habanero Flavor. It was very good, and $6.99 a jar. So good I bought a jar.
I am now 9/10 of the way through the jar. This is the best salsa I've ever had - no I am not related - but it tastes rich and fresh, it's chunky instead of tomato/corn syrup water with veg floating in it, it is REALLY GOOD. Husband doesn't have much heat tolerance so he's enjoying it in fat free bean/cheese burritos (yes, we are that exciting) and I'm a heat addict so I'm eating it straight on chips.
I believe that this is related to the Maria's Comida restaurant. Have never been there, don't know what their salsa is like (I get to El Granjero in Grand Rapids most often) but ZOMG this stuff is good. If you get a chance to try it, make sure you try it. Better than the Rick Bayless Chicago "gourmet" stuff, better than the fresh refrigerated. I usually don't buy salsa at that price point - I buy the Trader Joe's stuff and drown it with veggies or beans, but this is good, good stuff. Have not tried the other flavors yet (fear that they will lack the delightful pain of the Roasted Habanero).
