Fancy Sugar

No doubt there are many people on this board who have been accused of being bizarrely sensitive to tastes or odors -- and being unhappy about some flavor that seems normal to most people.

My current problem is sugar -- the supermarket variety. It doesn't taste good to me. Hard to describe the problem but it tastes thin, commercial, ersatz. I have been noticing it in my morning tea and cereal -- and a new bag of sugar hasn't solved the problem. I have been using Hawaiian cane sugar (not beet) from one of the big producers.

What HAS solved the problem is using a fancy crystalized sugar (Demarara) which I bought to top a batch of cookies. The little bag has some sell copy that suggested some general uses, and I like the toasty, rich flavor. I don't even want to think how much money this is going to cost me. I have included the company's link below -- I see a number of other types of sugar I'm going to have to try. (No, I have no affiliation with them.)

Question: any sugar experts out there? What do you do with fancy sugar? What else is there to know about this?
