I have been to Katsura downstairs many times and the sushi has been very fresh and well prepared.
However - upstairs at the Sushi Bar are some serious sushi masters making incredible works of art you have to try if you are a sushi fan! We were fortunate enough to visit last night. Once our chef understood we liked 'challenging' sushi he pulled out some real treats like a sardine size japanese fish that had a nose like a swordfish... he filleted it and tied the tiny fillets into a knot on top of the rice. Buttery fantastic. The toro was second to none. Light dinner for two with tea(18 pcs sushi) was about $60.
At the risk of making this place too popular for me and my husband to snag a spot at the bar - I highly recommend it.
York Mills and Leslie. Westin Prince hotel. Katsura restaurant entrance - but go left and upstairs. It is a bit brightly lit for a romantic evening, and definitely out of the way. But worth it to sushi purists!
