Fabulous Cantonese

I am a typical New York food snob and never like the Chinese food outside of NYC unless I'm in Asia. But Ocean City was fantastic. We had scallops with XO sauce (as good as in Hong Kong and much more generous), Fried rice with Salt fish (good but a little too bland), Rock Cod and Eggplant casserole (excellent) , Watercress with fuyu --fermented tofu--(very good), and a cold bitter melon appetizer which was marvelous. It is rather pricey by NYC standards, but truly wonderful--I can't wait to go back, I've planned a trip to Portland largely around a return visit this summer.
A heartfelt request: please, please don't go there and ask for Americanized "Chinese" food, for gooey lemon chicken, and sesame chicken, and noodles with sesame sauce (made with peanut butter), and all the other standard fare almost of all of which was invented entirely for American tastes and which the staff and Chinese customers would drop dead before eating. Get what they get, widen your horizons, and you will be very happy!
