Fabiolus Cafe - PK's Mini-Review

Fabiolus Cafe
6270 W. Sunset Blvd.
Cross street - Vine

I haven't been to ye ole Fabiolus Cafe in years, with varied memories. I had a fun party or two at the locale on Melrose way back when, with "eh" food but a fun vibe. I had eaten at the Sunset location once, and had such abysmal service, I swore a never-return policy. But never say never. Last Tuesday, it was just in the right spot at the right time with the cuisine-of-choice for my companion. Lunchtime, by the way, so I caved - low expectations.

The ambiance in the Sunset branch is so-so. I do like the back patio area, where we were seated, but the clouds were spitting up and swooshing up wind gusts that day, so I would have been wiser to request an inside seat. No matter, it added to the adventure.

We weren't famished, so we nibbled on the horrifically boring bread that was served with a pretty darn tasty olive oil/garlic creation and ordered light.

Entees -
I had a salad with radicchio, endive, and spinach, with parmesan slices and a balsamic dressing. Simple enough, right? The dressing was pretty tasteless, the balance of greens heavily favored the too-bitter radicchio, and the lettuce - mostly wilted. Which, of course, they tried to cover up with more dressing, but puh-leeze. I've got eyeballs. And tastebuds.

Companion had linguini ala pesto - also boring, but slightly more tasty.

It was $30, including tax, tip, and 2 sodas, for this mess - blech. I should have stuck to the never.

Final word - no. Thanks, but no.

Ciao, 'Hounds :)
