Does anyone have experience with growing Beach Plums in their yard?

Luckily my area is as sandy as they come. But while I can take a stroll on any local beach (or grocery parking lot!) and pick all the rose hips I want, beach plums are pretty darn hard to come by.

Then I find out that a local farmstand is selling beach plums by the pint! I ran down and got one pint, cooked it up into jam and was blown away; the best jam I ever made. The story is that Cornell is experimenting and gave them a few sprigs back in 2013 and they just took off.

So of course, I have to try. I tied up most of the pits and added it to the pot for extra flavor, but did also save a dozen or so to experiment with. I hear you have to do a cold thing over the winter, put them in a jar with peat moss and watch for roots to form? I'm doing it either way, but anyone else? What have I got to lose!
