since i rely on chowhound for basically all of my food due dilligence, i thought that i'd post about some of my semi-recent experiences with restaurants mentioned and discussed on chowhound:
- wondee siam: hey, this place really is good! i ordered strictly from items recommended by members (papaya salad, crispy pork, etc.) and i was not disappointed. maybe not amazing like marnee in sf, but definitely the best of the admittedly weak thai experiences i've had in nyc.
- grand sichuan eastern: i organized a big dinner here w/a bunch of friends, a few of whom had already eaten at this location. well, this place was excellent, esp. the chengdu dumplings and the ma bo tofu (i actually ordered a slightly less spicy version variant and it was great). definitely nothing at all westernized about the menu (or the service for that matter!)
- la foccaceria: my gf and i went here specifically for the arrancini after receiving recommendations for it from other hounds. honestly, it was just 'ok'. i was disappointed that the rice balls were so huge and bland. i still have to follow up on the other hound leads.
