Last night we stopped by Yamakaze for noodles and were very happy to hear that they're going to be adding some Tibetan dishes to their menu.
Some of the staff is from Tibet, including a waiter whose sister works at the Himalayan Yak. He kindly gave us a preview of freshly made, outrageously good momo.
The skin was a bit thinner than Himalayan Yak's, and the freshness was incredible. The bottoms were delicately crisp, contrasting with the creamy filling of mashed potato with shreds of bitter greens (chard, maybe?). The accompanying red hot sauce is the best I've had here, starting out gently with tomato and green chili but ending with a persistent burn.
So, lovers of good momo, unite and descend on Yamakaze. I always enjoy their Japanese food, and if they put the same care into their Tibetan food, it's going to be a knock-out.
