Excellent lunch at Cafe Pacific in Palos Verdes

Got into a bad car accident on Friday and needed a little comforting, so had lunch with a friend in Palos Verdes at Ocean Trails Golf Course (the golf course actually has a new name which I can't recall as Trump International is the current owner)

Turned out to be just what I needed. The weather was gorgeous and we had an amazing view of the Pacific in the formal dining room. Started with a small cup of fantastic clam chowder topped with a small freshly baked herb biscuit. The chowder was perfect, not to thin and not to thick, and the broth had a very subtle green tinge to it, possibly creamed asparagus added? The clams tested very fresh too and not too much potato was used as filler.

Main course was wild Scottish salmon with pea tendrils and grilled asparagus, served over horseradish mashed potatoes ($17). This salmon was one of the best I have had in months, grilled perfectly over mesquite with a crispy crust, inside the meat was surprisingly soft and light in texture for salmon. The grilled asparagus and pea tendrils were great sides and the mashed potatoes added to the comfort factor. For $17 this was a fantastic deal for such quality. Much better wood-grilled salmon than my current favorite at Gulfstream.

Dessert was a cranberry and pear tart with vanilla bean ice cream that was good if not memorable.

I live in San Pedro and always forget about this place, but I definitely need to start coming here more often. After writing this now starting to crave that salmon!
