Yet another excellent lonely dinner at Ozone (long)

HJ | Aug 17, 200412:26 PM

As I mentioned before, I am going to write about my dinner experience in Ozone restaurant. We have been to this restaurant 3 times the past week. Last Monday, last Wednesday, and yesterday. All times around 7-8, we stayed around 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours or so. Each time, we are the only table in the whole restaurant for the whole dining period.

Ozone is a Thai restaurant owned by the same owners of Osha Thai. I was told by the friend who took me there that people starts coming to eat at around 11PM, mainly for snacks and KaraOK.

The decor is quite eclectic with big screen TV (for KaraOK) and loud music. Modern looking chairs and tables with Thai Silk pillows. However, what really excites me the most is the food.

This place serves food that I have never had at any other Thai Restaurant. (That is the reason we came back here 3 times in a week)

The front of the menu serves the regular Thai fare, Appetizers, Salad, Entres, Pan Fried noodles, and soup noodles. What really attracts us to this place is the very end of the menu. Small plates of Thai dishes (average $5.50 each plate) and Plain Porridge. The friend who took us there explained that this is quite popular in Thailand. Very similar to Taiwan style.

We try to order different things every time, but each of them are very good. Here are a couple of the dishes we ordered.

Chai-Po with Egg: A childhood dish which we love, I don't know if this is authentic Thai dish.

On-Choi - Also known as Chinese watercress, the best prepared that I have tried anywhere. Spicy and aromatic.

Preserved Egg (black egg) topped with Ground pork with fried basil - Another excellent dish. The preserved egg is deep fried and topped with ground pork.

Salted Egg Salad - Salted Duck eggs topped with onions, lemon grass and topped with Lime, cilantro, fish sauce. Delicious with Porridge.

Garlic and Pepper fried pork intestines: Intestines is not crispy as I expected and a bit chewy, but overall is very aromatic and tasty.

We also ordered a couple of dishes from the salad menu:

Lime pork salad - Very spicy and very delicious. Slices of pork topped with red chilly lime dressing.

Duck Salad - Another winner, slices of roasted duck topped with dried chily flakes and topped with lime juice.

We love this place very much and will make this our weekly monday night dinner. Haha.
