Everyone's favorite (central) Queens pastries?

By central Queens, I mean the area of Elmhurst, Maspeth, Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village, all around there.
So many bakeries and it's so hard to tell the good from the bad. Furthermore, it could be that one amazing item lost behind a case of crap.
I'm seeking interesting and high quality pastries, not big cakes. All nationalities... Polish, German, Chinese, Italian, Russian...?
What got me curious is the Chinese bakery I stoped in on on Broadway, between 81 & 82nd St. in Elmhurst. I never believed in Chinese pastries, but I sampled a sublime sesame pastry that I want to return to. However, within that same shop I tried this green tea ball that was terrible.
Anyway, I'd like to find something after work today to bring to dinner tonight.
