Eugene and Springfiedl - a tale of two cities

Recently enjoyed two widely different restaurants in these two cities:
Chef's Kitchen in Eugene, which I haven't seen posted on here:
Small, eclectic and friendly
a good gnocchi appetizer was followed by ( in my case)
a large serving of veal sweetbreads in a warm brown sauce accompanied by two types of rice and mixed vegetables. My companions had a Muscovy duck breast served with pears in plum sauce, salmon topped with shredded crab meat with beurre blanc, and a Thai beef salad. All expressed their approval

El Metate in Springfield
VERY Small
When we first walked in the couple running the place were busy making fresh corn tortillas and expressed their sorrow that the first batch would not be ready for ten - fifteen minutes. No matter, we took a pleasant stroll down Main Street and investigated the local butcher shop - Brightoak Meat Service where we found a good selection of different meat cuts including local rabbit and 15 (!) different kinds of jerky
Upon our return to El Metate we had fresh baked tortillas waiting with 2 types of sauce, both fairly spicy, and good, inexpensive huevos rancheros for breakfast. A very good deal for the money!
