Way back in February, in the before times, I started my day with brunch at Estero Cafe in the hamlet of Valley Ford. My mission was to indulge in the chicken fried steak, prepped in-house using Stemple Creek beef. However, from my perch at the counter watching the cooks at work, I overheard the warning that there was only enough hollandaise sauce left for one more order of eggs benedict and I had to have that instead.

The Dungeness crab cakes were already sold-out as well, so this was a more earthbound eggs benny made with bacon and no sea creatures on an English muffin. Velvety smooth and unctuously rich hollandaise sauce was all it should be, and perhaps in a larger amount as every drop remaining was lavished on my plate. More than enough to share the love on excellent hash browns, and adding some of the great housemade hot sauce took this over the top.

"tom246" mentioned the fried chicken here, and that its sister restaurant, Americana, has opened in Santa Rosa. https://www.chowhound.com/post/fried-...

I regret not getting a slice of pie to-go. But that just means a return visit is in order for chicken fried steak and pie when the calorie-budget allows. Estero Cafe received the Snail of Approval from Slow Food in 2017 recognizing its dedication to good, clean and fair local food. https://www.localfoodmatters.org/2019... While Sonoma County is not yet allowing indoor dining, the cafe is open Friday to Monday for breakfast and lunch on its outdoor patio or to-go.

Would love to hear from others who have been here!
