This SF Bay Area resident never, ever passes through Espanola, NM (between Santa Fe and Taos) without stopping at Joann's Rancho Casados. My partner and I discovered Joann's years ago at her old location at a former drive-in. After disappearing for several years, she's back in a new space. Joann's is the only place I know to get an authentic bowl of chicos (corn dried in a horno and stored until it's cooked into a beautiful, thick broth). Hers is chewy, smoky and not to be missed. If reconstituted corn isn't your thing, don't sweat it. You'll love whatever you order. Look for the sign. 938 N. Riverside Drive.
