Escopazzo in South Beach is a gem

Hi Folks,
This is my first posting to Chowhound. I just got back from a trip to Florida that included an absolutely delicious dinner at Escopazzo which is located at 1311 Washington Avenue, South Beach (Miami).

The restaurant is quite small but we lucked out since we were looking for an early dinner. I guess that South Beach gets busy after 9:30 or so. This was a Tuesday evening and we were able to get seated around 7pm without a problem.

Every dish was outstanding. I had a saffron risotto with a fois gras ragout on top. It was one of those dishes that could've gone on forver. It was just a half order because I also ordered another daily special which was a spaghetti with clams and mollusk eggs. I'd never had mollusk eggs before and they added something earthy, delicious and a great texture to the dish.

I was sorry they're not open for lunch because it was the last free evening I had available and I was unable to return.

The people I was with both had a vegetarian entree which was a pumpkin filled ravioli had leeks and amaretto cookies crushed into the mixture. Those were a wonderful combination of sweet and savory.

If you have a chance, wow.
