I've been in the neighborhood for 5 months and I keep walking by this place. If you stop to look at the menu, someone comes running out and accosts you. It's irritating.
Well, I finally gave in and order lasagne and a house salad and dang! the food exceeded my expectations. Lasagne had fantastic flavors - the red sauce was so bright and addictive and I was truly impressed by the quality of the ingredients. Portion was big and I should have only eaten half, but I didn't (it was so good). House salad was romaine, and very pretty slices of red pepper, fennel, celery and tomato with a balsamic vinagrette made with a lovely olive oil. Again, exceeded expectations. Two dishes with tax were $20.
I wouldn't at all suggest this to be a destination restaurant, but if you're in the neighborhood or heading to BAM, it's well worth a visit. The other Italian restaurant down the street, Scopello, sucked (IMHO of course). I'll definitely try some other items on the menu at Epoca.
Cash only and it's not posted (irritating) as far as I can tell.
