Encounters

Had to pick up a friend last night at LAX.

Spurned by a latent curiosity since childhood, in addition to the queries of a recent poster, decided to check out what's going on up there in the middle of that huge concrete spider that presides over
the airport.

Interior decor is Space Mountain meets the Jetsons---angular, misshapen chairs and tables, flashing neon lights everywhere, the whole thing dripping with cheese. Disney on acid.

Food is, in fact, better than it has any right to be (not worth the details), but everything is a rip-off, ---diner-fare at fine dining prices. Operating hours are an irritant, and mysteriously illogical for an airport restaurant: kitchen closes at 9:30PM, bar at 10:00PM. Arriving Friend, whose flight was delayed, was unable to eat dinner or enjoy a libation. No great loss, I suppose.

Not worth the view (which is killer) or the novelty/kitsch factor. If one needs to kill time near the airport, or is picking up a hungry loved one, head to the In n' Out on Sepulveda...
