Tried the $5 steak at Ellis Island. It was a good deal, you get salad, potato, green beans, and a 8-10 ounce steak. Ordered it medium rare, but it came almost medium. Wasn't a great steak but good for $5. I would say it is on par with Black Angus steak, much better than Sizzler.
Lunch at Bouchon at Venetian. Was expecting menu to be more like dinner but it was a mix of breakfast and dinner menu. The bread was excellent, some kind of french baguette. The white sausage(boudin blanc) was excellent, very tender. Friend had the steak with frites. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great. It had butter and onions, you can't go wrong. Reasonabley priced wines, got a bottle of Bordeaux for $40. Service was excellent.
Dinner at MIX at Mandalay Bay. Of course, great views and setting, and all that other junk. They first serve little balls of bread that were really good. Then, they bring a large basket with many different kinds of bread with homemade butter and peanut butter, both of which were very good. Had the foie gras terrine, which was good but I've had better. It came with apricot chutney, salt, pepper and bread. Friend had potato gnochi which was very rich and good. For main courses I had veal with sweetbreads. The veal was excellent, very tender and fatty. The sweetbreads were okay. Friend had tenderloin with vermicelli. Steak was good, but not as good as Bouchon.
