Tried out Ella's wood fired pizza last night and I have a couple of comments. I found the place actually pretty nice and the people very friendly, if a bit inexperieced for waiters.
For apetizers we had calimari and a spinach salad. THe calamari was standard fare but good. The spinach salad was coated with a tasty anchovy flavored mustared dressing and accompanied with good cheese and crunchy crutons.
The pizza is only ok, with the crust and the sauce being the most disappointing parts. The crust was bland and not crispy. It really lacked taste. The sauce was boring and uninspired.
I would not have been so harsh on the place if Matchbox had not opened before in the same area. I am a big fan of the pizza there and the miniburgers, plus I find the ambience much more fun.
Still, it is good to see independent restaurants coming in instead of another Ruby Tuesday or Fuddruckers.
