Eleni's Restaurant, 226 3rd Ave -- a find!

Nice when you find an unexpected gem. Walking down 3rd toward lunch we thought at the Bao, happened upon Eleni's. Looked very appealing from the outside (and we were hungry!). Warm welcome, nice table in a little alcove. Prix fixe lunch $29.95, 6 or more choices for first and second course.
Grilled pita and hummus was brought to the table gratis. Had the horiatiki which featured excellent tomatoes (yes, better than pretty much any in restaurants here even in summer -- commented to the waiter who said "yes, we do that"). He had the grilled octopus, very good. We both had the lavraki (whole grilled branzino), perfectly cooked and served on very hot plates that kept the fish nice and warm throughout, and a lemon and olive oil sauce on the side and a rice pilaf with leeks which was very good. Dessert was rolled baklava and fab galaktoboureko, semolina custard in phyllo, served warm. Excellent espresso. Reasonable wine prices. The lunch is a remarkable value. Go!
