So the wife and a friend of ours went last night. I was a bit disappointed but I'd go back again to sample something else. It's a cozy joint that was empty when we arrived, 7.30 p, but had a good crowd (old, young, jocks, couples, singles, etc) by the time we left at 9 p.
The free chips were bland and stale, the salsa watery but w/ bite. We shared the chile con queso - tasty but not memorable. My wife and our friend both ordered the enchilada con espinaca y carne (enchilada w/ spinach and meat). It came w/ beans and yello rice. I sampled my wife's and it was quite good; very savory. I had the carnitas which the menu boasts is the Washingtonians best pick of their menu. I wonder why.
Althought it was a generous helping of pork w/ beans and rice and three flour tortillas, the meat was dry and not all that tasty. I really expected to be overpowered by the garlic and onions and other spices; but then again, I'm accustomed to overgarlicking and overonioning pork when I cook it. So goes my Cuban cookery heritage.
Overall it was nice. The service was quick and friendly. I'd go back to sample the other offerings which are plentiful. The do have mole which I've had and liked and regret not sampling last night. We dropped $60 for three which included one beer and two margaritas.
