EL COCOTERO review--venezuelan in chelsea

we went to EL COCOTERO for early dinner today. after many visits in total i'd summarize the place as solidly just ok. its rather expensive and serves small portions of many items as well.

tonight i had lentil soup and it was just fine. lots of cilantro really made it, but otherwise it was undistinguished. i also had the reina pepiada arepa sandwich. its a very small shredded chicken, cilantro and avocado arepa sandwich. not as good as usual. not much cilantro or avocado in there today, or much anything really its a tiny sandwich. she had a main dish of potato salad and a chicken, beef and olive stuffed tamal. attractively served, filling, not bad, but nothing special either.

to drink we had small glasses iced tea and limeade. the limeade, called papelon con limon or brown sugar infused limeade is pretty good i just wish there was more of it.

not really worth the $33 total but not a total ripoff either. FLOR is better, but this is close to home so....i go on occasion. service was "eh." but it always is. the owner likes to keep involved in lots of small dramatic nonsense which is distracting. give it a try, just prepare to be underwhelmed.
