I have tasted many egg tarts including the much discussed GG in SF Chinatown and I found this particular store top notch. The crust has that elusive crunch and slightly sweet but not too crumbly. And the custard is a bit eggy but not overly so. Sweetness is just right and it is also slightly torched for the extra caramelized top surface.
It is in the new LION complex in Newark (Mowry & Cedar) at the SOGO bakery where I also discovered their great tiramisu. Anybody had this tart at that particular place ? Maybe next time Derek come this way, he might compare this tart. I think it is simply awesome. It is still verg good even the next day.
Folks, this is a chowhound treasure IMO for these two items ! How about other SOGO branches ?
