I'm going to visit a friend for a couple of days in Edinburgh. We are both students, so will sadly not be going to fancy restaurants!
I was wondering whether there's anything you simply CANNOT miss out on, food-wise, when you go to Edinburgh. A takeout shop, some local delicacy (other than deep-fried mars bars), etc. I'm really sad to be missing the farmers' market. Are there any reasonably priced places where I could buy some local cheese? Maybe even a supermarket?
And finally, what's the status of Chinese food in Edinburgh? Is it similar to what I could get in London? Unfortunately I am not travelling via that heaven of dim sum and those soft-yet-crunchy chow mein noodles, and want to know if this is something I could also get in EDI.
