We were on a search for a non-chain place to eat and happened upon Edamame, located in a strip mall set back off the busy International Speedway Rd in Daytona, same area as the Outback. We went on a Thursday night and there was nobody in the place when we entered so that made us a little nervous, but the meals we got were fantastic. As the evening went on a few more people came in.
There is another review on here of this place that isn't so good so I'd like to balance that out. We aren't from the Daytona area, just visiting, but we will return to Edamame next time we are back.
We had the Hibachi treatment which was a lot of fun for us and the 2 thirteen year olds with us. The food was wonderful and you get huge quantities. I decided not to get an entree and just share and I'm glad I did. As it was the other three took home food. One person had the calimari steak, one had the vegetables and one had the chicken, all cooked on the hibachi in front of us. All come with rice, noodles, salad, soup. (The vegetable option was only $10.95--unbelievable value for what she got)
We also got an appetizer from the sushi chef which was spicy fried tuna roll that is about the best sushi I've had anywhere.
So they have sushi, an hibachi grill, regular japanese entrees. The decor is nice with the places around the hibachi grills all a nice granite. The wait staff is very friendly and speaks good English. They have all the regular beer, wine, sake...
We were there in August which is the low season for the tourists, so I think business is slow for them, but I hope they make it through the downturn as it will be loss to the Daytona area. To get there from the beach front get on International Speedway Blvd and head west. It will be on your right in the same shopping center as the Outback. Probably a 10 minute drive from the beach. Give it a try if you are tired of crowded beach places with jacked up prices or just want to try something a little different.
