Eccentric Montreal PART 2 - Seeking out the strange & unusual

Jacquelyn | Jan 12, 2010 01:49 AM

Hi all! My boyfriend and I visited Montreal from NYC last year for Vday: Now we're getting ready for round 2!

I've been compiling a list from the board rec's but If anyone has any MORE/NEWER tips on eccentric finds, dark cafes, quirky bars, strange & ecclectic menus or cozy hole in the walls, I would love it. We don't care too much for the overpriced chi chi. Nothing super loud or obnoxious.

Last year we went to:
le paris (very good!)
stash cafe (dying to come back for the duck)
chez cora (enjoyed several breakfasts here)
alpenhaus (nicest staff ever)
patati patata (def coming back)
le petit alep (Mmmmm)
milos (we had a gift certificate...there's one here in NYC too!)
chocobel (OMG!)
the bagel place (Meh)
foufounes electriques (very cool bar)
bar flye (really friendly bar)

Not too many hole in the walls but everything was wonderful and we can't wait to try more!

Here are a few places we were told to try:
Au pied de cochon
Sur Bleury
Bouchees Gourmandes
Aux Délices de d'île Maurice (aka Sylvester's)
Le Piton de la Fournaise
Le Fromentier
Fous Desserts
Les Saveurs du Plateau
Bouchonné comptoir à vin
Café Myriade
Bistro Bienville
Au Cinquième Péché
Les 3 Petits Bouchons
Le Jolifou
La Binerie Mont-Royal

Any opinions or off the beaten trek suggestions are appreciated. We're staying on Rue St Denis South this year (latin quarters I think?)

TX chow hounderzzz!!!
