We just came home from dinner at Ebb Tide. It was fine, but not great. My husband and chowpup started with the New England clam chowder and I started with the baked clams. All decent, but not outstanding. The clams could have been more flavorful. DH says Legal's is still his favorite clam chowder. (I meant to ask them where their clams were coming from, but I forgot.)
DH had a fried soft shell crab sandwich which he said was seriously oversalted. My steamed lobster was, again, fine, not great. Some bites full of sweet, lobstery yumminess, others nothing special. It would have been nice if they had split the underside of the tail and the body, as most places do, but I could certainly ask for that next time. Also, the small, pincer part of each claw was terribly bitter, a problem I've never run into before. Anybody have any idea what causes that? The lobster wasn't really hot when it got to me, although I can't quite understand why, since they seem to be serving things right away. Precooked and then warmed up?
All in all, we'd go back and try some other stuff, since they're reasonably priced and convenient (10 min from us) and eating outside was so pleasant, but I certainly wouldn't spend the $ and effort for lobster and it's definitely no where near as good as the great lobster places I've been to in Maine and Massachusetts. Maybe the steamers are better.
