With this week's heat wave, summer's really here. Displays of squash blossoms color farmers markets and seasonal specials of the summer flowers are popping up on menus.
Please tell us where you've been enjoying squash blossoms.
In recent weeks, I've tried:
Sunday special, $15. Fried squash blossoms stuffed with pork belly, shrimp, ricotta and summer squash. Thick-looking but very light and crisp batter. Bed of arugula with cherry tomatoes, sweet yellow and white corn, pickled onions and tomato coulis. Perfection.
$16. Chevre stuffed and deep-fried squash blossoms, yellow peaches, watercress, rosemary, white balsamic dressing.
$16. Wood-fired pizza topped with sweet as apples summer squash slices, squash blossoms, mozzarella, grana padano, garlic.
$14. Soggy, greasy undercooked floury-tasting batter, grilled sweet corn relish, fried chunks of summer squash, blossoms stuffed with ricotta and mascarpone, basil, chives, espelette pepper.
