Anybody eaten at Santa Barbara Peruvian in north Newark?

Ike Crichton | Sep 3, 2002 03:37 PM

While walking around, I noticed a Peruvian place called Santa Barbara on Mt. Prospect Ave. in far northern Newark (a few blocks south of the Newark-Belleville border, near exit 5 off Route 21). I've heard great things about Peruvian cuisine and I'm wondering if this place is any good--anybody tried it? I've been unemployed for several months, otherwise I'd have tried it by now, even though I normally focus more on Asian food. I may try it anyway, and if so I'll report back. It's in a heavily Hispanic neighborhood (mostly Dominicans and Puerto Ricans and maybe Mexican I think) where not much English is spoken, but it's a pretty decent neighborhood, not too frightening, definitely not even close to the worst you can find in Newark.
