Has anyone eaten at Kyoto?

Suzy Q | Nov 8, 200209:42 AM     1

I am planning to take a friend to Kyoto in the Wilshire Grand Hotel for lunch next week. We haven't firmed up the plan so I'm wondering if this is a good place for a birthday lunch. We used to go to Tokyo Kaikan on 2nd and San Pedro (long since gone) and sit at the tempura bar. The chef would prepare these wonderful morsels of seafood and vegetables and then flip them across the bar onto your plate. He would finish off the meal with this delicious bannana fried in the tempura batter. I'm wondering if the tempura bar at Kyoto is anything like we remember Tokyo Kaikan to be. Thanks for any input.
