Anyone eat at Range last night?

Ivy | Apr 23, 200601:18 PM

This was my first visit. Overall I thought the food was okay. For such a straight forward menu, I expected every dish to be fantastic but nothing wowed me. Should I go back and try it again? Your thoughts please. Thanks.

I ordered:
puree of asparagus soup with creme fraiche -- wished it had more asparagus flavor

New Zealand bluenose bass with artichoke, bacon, turnips and meyer lemon vinegrette -- fish was too rare for my taste, meat was still sticking to the bone

espresso custard with whipped cream and toffee -- best part of the meal. great espresso flavor and not too sweet.

I got to sample my companions' dishes:
manila clams with sausage and garlic toast -- good

chicken liver mousse and frisee salad -- good, but didn't like the drizzle of olive oil on top of a very rich mousse

egg noodles with short ribs and leeks -- a little salty

steak bavette with horseradish -- meat was very rare, server didn't ask how we wanted steak done.

coffee rubbed pork shoulder with braised swiss chard and hominy -- meat was very tender, I didn't smell or taste coffee. maybe coffee was used just to tenderize meat and not for flavor?

bittersweet chocolate souffle with creme anglasie -- okay, thought the souffle was undercooked/not fluffy enough

pineapple rhubard crisp - needed more vanilla ice cream too mellow out the tartness of the rhubard
