easy-peezy tartine bread

bandit | Apr 4, 2005 02:34 PM

I just wanted to post that I was able to secure a highly coveted and discussed loaf of bread from Tartine.

I live in the neighborhood and was working from home on Friday. I went in for a late breakfast (late for me) around 10am. I ordered the bread while I was paying, I went back and picked it up around 4:30, I asked a lot of questions trying to make it harder than it was- the cashier was just laughing at me...I asked if I had to have my receipt, photo id, get their right on time, first born child, etc..etc...but literally all I had to do was pay for it and pick it up- no lines, no hassle, no attitude (and no, I am not a regular such that they know me although I do try to go in every couple of weeks)...

Anyway, it was fantastic and amazing as previously posted...We enjoyed it with some fresh goat cheese, June Taylor (Meyer lemon & lime marmalade as well as her rosemary syrup) and lightly grilled on the stove....truly to die for...

I guess the level of difficulty (as one would expect) lies in the time of day and/or your ability to go by twice in one day ?? There was no line at 4:30 on a Friday and there didn’t seem to be that many orders (given the number of bags to number of loaves ratio)…

As for breakfast, the Morning buns are really good but I think the quiche is heavenly. The frangipane is also really good, not as great as St Barths or Paris but nevertheless its the best I have had in SF (if you know of a better frangipane, I am willing sacrifice and to try it :) I don't like coconut but the Muesli is great otherwise. I really like their goat cheese sandwich (french grilled cheese sort of) and salad.

Their Croque's are too heavy for me, mostly I don't like my veggies smothered in cheese so its may be the style of sandwich and not Tartine's version that is distasteful...I did spend a month last year in Paris and never saw these anywhere I ate, so I am missing something I guess ?? Anyway, I think their cookies are awful, as is their version of apple pie. In fact, I haven’t really ever fallen for any of their desserts, but I am going to keep trying…

KBO my friends, KBO (keep buggering on) :)
