Eastside Market Report

Coachboy | Mar 12, 2005 09:47 PM

I was scanning the meatball sub post earlier, and having to be in downtown today at lunch, decided to check out this widely heralded joint...

Location: Very hidden, in a residential neighborhood. Sorta reminded me of something you'd see in a crappy part of philly.

Ambiance: Really dreary...Dark, big space with a little deli unit up front. There are a couple of shelves with some pasta on it - that constitutes the "market" portion. A couple fridges of various drinks, and some chip shelves.

Service: I stood at the counter for about two minutes, as three countermen chatted away and spoke to a regular. Finally I was served. Ordered a meatball sub.

Food: Meatball is OK. Bread is mediocre. A lot of the bread had that mushy/watery texture from the sauce.

Why anyone would go out of their way to eat here is beyond me. And for those who think it's better than Bay Cities (great bread), please let me know your other favorite dining destinations so I can avoid them like the plague...
