I just found out I've been hired for a new job in Columbus. The good news is the long-distance part of my relationship with my partner will soon be over.
The bad news is that I'll be leaving the culinary treasure chest that is the SF Bay Area.
So what say you Hounds? What do you think I SHOULD make a point of targeting during my last seven weeks of time here? It could be something new, it could be something of an institution - I don't care, I'm kinda' looking for a list. Columbus does have a little bit of everything it seems, so I guess I'm especially looking for things that I know I'll end up missing badly in my new Midwest environs.
I already have Acme Bread and Mitchell's Ice Cream (I walk by the former everyday to work, so of course I have to indulge, and I grew up with the latter) as two must-haves. I know a Burmese resto (I've been to Mingalaba and Burma Superstar) is another, as well as the taco trucks on International Blvd (never been) but I'm open to all suggestions.
I guess the only caveats are:
1) North of the San Mateo Bridge - I do travel around quite a bit, but I don't think I see myself going south of there for the rest of my time here
2) Solo dining friendly - I've been a solo diner for all of my life here. There are places like Aziza and Chez Panisse that I have not eaten at yet but I'd rather enjoy the experience with my partner along with me (with my family in the area, we will definitely be back to visit.)
3) Budget friendly - Nothing more than maybe $15-20 max for a main course. I'm finding out how much it costs to move (yikes!) Couple that with the holiday spending...er, shopping season, and there you go.
