I just went to East Lake in Flushing for dimsum with my family as a farewell lunch before my move to Beijing. This has been my favorite place for dimsum in Flushing for some time, and once again it did not disappoint, though there are some caveats:
1. Parking is a bear out there, and though they have a parking lot, it is small and crowded at lunchtime on a Saturday.
2. They--like all dimsum places--automatically give non-Chinese poeple lousy tea instead of letting you order what you actually want. My family sat down before I joined the table, and since I'm the only Chinese speaker they just took what the waiter plunked down on the table. When I came, I saw that it was some sort of Jasmine tea, and had them change it for Oolong tea, which I prefer.
3. Again, as non-Chinese people, we were not given the opportunity to select some of the more 'unusual' dishes, which I guess the servers have come to expect only Chinese people will want. Thus I ended up having to make special requests for some dishes.
Nonetheless the food was great, and I recommend it heartily.
