Dried Squid edible? Difference between Korean and Thailand dried squid?

I lived in Korea for awhile and often ate dried squid as a drinking accompaniment (anju, but not slices or seasoned, just flat dried squid).
I've bought dried squid in a Korean market and eaten it as it, with soju. But today I tried a new asian market and bought small dried squid, expecting to just get home and eat it with some vodka that evening. Then I read on the label, "must be cooked or fried before eating". When I checked the label, this squid, much smaller than Korean squid, was from Thailand. Does anyone know what the difference is? Is it a different process? I would have thought that dried was dried, but you can eat Korean squid right from the bag, and apparently not these ones....
