Downtown Oakland Burrito Replacement Attempt: Azteca

Hiked up to 19th and Franklin in search of a burrito to plug the gap left by del Sol's closure. The "Taqueria and Deli" sign gave me pause but I went in anyhow. Mistake.

I ordered a carnitas super burrito; would've tried the al pastor but it was in a chafing-type dish with no cone o' meat anywhere in sight. Burrito construction was sloppy; as the guy folded it over much sour cream was pushed outside the tortilla, which was flimsy and thin.

The carnitas is best described as gummy, with no crispy bits at all and significant amounts of fat. The rice was bland but inoffensive, and you can't really mess up pinto beans destined for a burrito. Salsa was essentially diced tomatoes with a single sprig of cilantro, not picante at all. Gloppy American sour cream rather than crema. On the plus side, the cheese was a decent white melting cheese, and the guacamole was OK, being actual guacamole rather than that light-green avocado sauce stuff. All in all it was gross, mainly due to the meat, so I didn't finish it. The toll was way WAY too steep- $7.79 for my (not very) super burrito and Jarritos. I definitely will not go back.

I'd like to try Mi Casa but prior posts gave me the impression that it's more a restaurant than a taqueria, so I need to get a menu so I can phone ahead, time being an issue for me.
