While the TRUE spirit of the board is a positive one; to cheer on the up-and-comers, the under-recognized and the truly chowworthy in all forms...
I unfortunatly also feel an obligation to finger the flagrantly downwardly-spiraling establishments, especially if I myself been responsible for a good word of said establishment on this board.

Ze Mean Bean Cafe on Fleet Street in Fell's Point used to be a solid place to get both Ukranian treats and other solid "American Bistro" type eats. IMHO, it was really an under-valued gem. The constant "Help Wanted" signs for damn near every position SHOULD have tipped me off, but I found myself in dire need of well prepared food.
Didn't get it, and then some. One diner with us ordered a cheese platter. Priced per cheese. He got three cheeses. They came straight in their Safeway form with a basket of GREEN MOLDY bread. Not people to really freak out about mold when we're eating cheese, we were pretty low-key pointing out the mold problem to the server. She took NO notice. Said cheese plate (Boursin, fresh mozz, Brie - all from the Safeway) came to $28. The other diner got a scallop "special" salad which got him running home to the comfort of his own bathroom almost imediately. He stayed there A WHILE. That left me with my fossilized Chicken Kiev, served with oddly vinegary potatoes and haricots verts. How do you effup green beans and potatoes?!
In all honesty, none of us have had good "stomach reactions", and said reactions have lasted for days. The bill; (no alcaholic drinks) came to $98 for three intestinally maligned people.
Like I said, the true value of this board is in the positive chowhound sense of exploration - I just don't want anyone to take a past post and subject themselves to the torture...
