I was walking my new puppy this morning and stopped into the Boniere for a pastry. I'm not the brightest bulb first thing in the morning, so although I noted the croissants didn't look good and they'd changed the cases around, the significance or these observations didn't immediately register. But as the walk got the blood flowing to my brain, I had a horrifying thought, and I stopped in on my way home to verify it: the Boniere changed hands (for the umpty-umpth time) Tuesday. It's morphed from a bakery cafe back to a standard, decent-but-not-very-interesting, bakery. The new owner said the previous owner "had lots of problems" but I don't know if she meant personal or financial.
There went the best croissants in Alameda.
