We had a nice group of Hounds get together Sunday afternoon for a lunch at Douzo (tho we didn't order off the lunch menu). I loved the space - high 20-fot ceilings, clean lines, modern muted tones. Very inviting room befitting the varied menu., nice sake list, and great cocktails. There were seven of us, so the plan we decided on was to order two each of a few appetizers, and then a variety of rolls. Highlights for me were the cream spicy shrimp - large shrimp with a spicy light batter though I didnt notice much of the creamy sauce, the miso marinated bass, and the yellowtail with jalapeno (hmm..just noticed all variations of the same dishes I like at Nobu). We also ordered the beef tataki with ponzu sauce and a salmon and daikon appetizer. I let others do the ordering for the rolls, so not sure what they all were. Usually Im not a roll fan, preferring sashimi, but I especially liked the torched hamaki, the jalapeno roll, and the Russian roll with its thick layer of caviar, and would order any of them again. A great bottle of Sake was also shared, and hopefully someone else will chime in with details. And of course I had to check out the cocktails for research. Tried the Green Tea Potion which was very good, made with Charbay green tea vodka, unfiltered sake, and green tea. But the favorite (which also ended up being the dessert for almost all of us) was the Lychee Martimi mixed with pineapple juice and lychee syrup, it went down a little bit too easy. Douzo also has a really attractive bar area I was planning on having one more cocktail before we left just to check out the bar of course but my husband wisely talked me out of it. I had a great time seeing some familiar Hounds, and meeting new ones. I'll definitely be back to check it out for dinner. Attached is a nice pic from nomadfromcincy.
