Doughnuts, pizza, and a lovely surprise

I finally made it to Kane's Doughnuts in Saugus, a month after printing Google's directions for the car. Always ready to support an LDS! They had me from the sign: blue and pink neon, with a flashing yellow arrow made of bright yellow light bulbs. The doughnuts were happily retro as well: they are huge (the size of a salad plate) and substantial without being leaden. The honey dipped was close to the best I've had, and not too sweet. The cakey types were tender - but one could last me for a week (did I mention eating an entire honey-dipped in the car on the way home? - ouch!)
Yesterday evening we made our first visit to Emma's Pizza before a movie at Kendall Square. The cherry tomato, goat cheese and chicken pizza had shatteringly thin crust and was fine for the type, the service fast and pleasant. When I mentioned that we had come down from Newburyport for the movie, the host brought us two free passes for the Kendall Square Theater - I gasped, and he smiled and said that they would pick up the cost of our movie, since we had come so far.
Wow - what a random act of kindness - we might never get back there, we ordered only one pizza. I was touched and happy.
